1. (of a person) Not identified by name; of unknown name.
2. Having no outstanding, individual, or unusual features; unremarkable or impersonal.
I have never had one mean comment on this blog where the person has signed their names afterward. Every mean comment has been from the same person, "Anonymous." and Anonymous is an asshole.
Okay. I am not stupid. I know that it is probably a bunch of people, but each comment might as well be from the same person. Because each person that leaves an anonymous comment like that has the same intention.. to hurt.. and each person who leaves an anonymous comment is too scared to leave their name. Why is that?
At least when you say something mean person to person, there is room for discussion, room for improvement, room for understanding.
Being anonymous closes the doors for all those opportunities.. It ruins everything good about conversation. It really is just like sneaking up on someone completely defenceless, punching them in the kidneys, and running away. Ouch.
Words hurt. Anonymous or not, they hurt.
If you would never say it in person to someone, don't say it online either. Or if you can't resist the urge to comment, leave your name. You owe it to others to do that. Bullying is bullying. Nuff said.
Let us close off this blog post with one of my favourite quotes EVER. It is by Taylor Swift, but that doesn't decredit it in anyway. This quote is brilliant, and I think we should try to remember it the next time (anonymous or not) we think about saying something hurtful.
“Words can break someone into a million pieces, but they can also put them back together. I hope you use yours for good, because the only words you'll regret more than the ones left unsaid are the ones you use to intentionally hurt someone.”
- Taylor Swift
